Visa Information

To obtain a visa or a work permit for Denmark, the following steps apply:

1. Check your eligibility, applicable procedures and the documentation that you have to provide:

Asylum | Au pairs | EU and Nordic citizens | Family Reunification | Family reunification under EU law | Interns | Studies | Visa | Work |

Especially regarding applications for residence cards and long-stay visas:

a)    Application and supporting documents can be submitted on-line via www.newtodenmark.dk. However, your biometric data (photo, fingerprints, signature) must be recorded no later than 14 days after the application is submitted. To do this, you must come to the Embassy of Denmark, bringing a printout of the confirmation that the application was submitted on-line. The immigration authorities will not start processing the application until they have received your biometric data.

b)    You or a third party on your behalf can submit the application by mail. However, your biometric data (photo, fingerprints, signature) will need to be recorded no later than 14 days after the application is submitted.  To do this, you must come to the Embassy of Denmark, bringing the original travel document and a copy of the three first pages of the application form. The immigration authorities will not start processing the application until they have received your biometric data. 

2. Check the application fee

Visa application fees (as of 1 january 2017):
Visa: NOK 540
Residence/work permit: NOK 1.730

The Embassy of Denmark accepts credit/debit cards such as VISA, Axept, Master Card, and American Express. Payments can also be made to our account No. 8101 05 79015 with the Danske Bank, Norway. Cash payments are not accepted.

3. When you and your documentation etc. is ready, book an appointment with the Visa Section

How to book an appointment on-line
Go to the Book an appointment link below, click sign-in at the next screen (top right hand corner) and create an account (free of charge) by providing the following information:

  • your valid e-mail address (=user name)
  • a password (of your choice)
  • your name
  • your phone number 

In the message field you must indicate the type of visa you are applying for, e.g. Green Card or Au pair.

After your booking you will receive an e-mail confirmation.

4. Come to the Embassy at the appointed hour

Do not forget to bring your passport and all documents required. Double-sided copies are not accepted.

Your application and data will forwarded to the Danish Immigration Service/ Danish Agency for Labour Retention and International Recruitment, who will decide your case. The Embassy contact you when we receive the decision.

5. While your case is pending

You or your family or other persons, including your reference in Denmark, should never contact the Embassy to inquire about the status of your pending case, unless you have further information to provide. The Embassy will contact you if we need further information or when we have received the decision regarding your application by the Danish Immigration Service/Danish Agency for Labour Retention and International Recruitment.
